- Adjunct Assistant Professor Position, Africana Studies Program at Barnard College:
The Africana Studies Program at Barnard College is seeking an individual to teach an introductory course in African Studies during the Fall, 2010 semester. The course is the first part of a two-semester introduction to the major, is open to both Barnard and Columbia students at all levels, and meets twice a week for one hour and fifteen minutes per class.
AFRS BC 3004x Introduction to African Studies:
An interdisciplinary and thematic approach to the study of Africa, moving from pre-colonial through colonial and post-colonial periods to contemporary Africa. Focus will be on its history, societal relations, politics and the arts. The objective is to provide a critical survey of the history as well as of continuing debates in African studies. A Ph.D. prior to appointment and teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Barnard is a liberal arts college for women affiliated with Columbia University in New York. Applicants should submit a letter of introduction, a curriculum vitae, writing sample (about 25 pages) and the names of two potential references to the Africana Studies Director, Kim F.Hall, at Africana@barnard.edu.
